On June 8, 2024, the Reno ALS Walk united the community in a powerful display of solidarity, raising both awareness and funds for ALS of Nevada. Cosplay for Kindness (C4K) was honored to participate, bringing joy and excitement to attendees with our Spider-Man and Black Panther cosplayers. Our mission was to entertain children, raise awareness about ALS, and support the ongoing fight against this devastating disease.
The event kicked off with check-in at 10:30 AM, followed by the walk starting at noon. The energy was palpable as the Reno Fire Department led the way, clad in their heavy fire suits, symbolizing the weight of the battle that ALS patients and their families face daily. This touching display set the tone for a day of community and compassion.
One of the highlights for C4K was interacting with the children, who were thrilled to take photos with their favorite superheroes. These moments of joy were priceless and exemplified the spirit of the event—bringing people together for a meaningful cause. Additionally, we made valuable connections with new vendors, expanding our network and opportunities for future collaborations.
The national anthem, performed by the color guard, was a poignant moment, reminding us of the unity and strength within our community. It was also heartwarming to reconnect with familiar faces from last year’s walk, sharing stories and experiences that reinforced the importance of our collective efforts.
As we walked, laughed, and even shed a few tears together, the community’s commitment to the cause was evident. Although we’ve made significant progress, with 67% of the $75,000 goal already raised, the fundraising efforts continue until December 31. We urge everyone to join us in supporting ALS of Nevada by contributing to this essential cause.
ALS of Nevada provides vital services and reliable information to those affected by ALS. Their support includes equipment loans, grants for ALS-related expenses, and access to multidisciplinary clinics and clinical trials. The progression of ALS varies from person to person, and ALS of Nevada tailors their assistance to meet each individual’s unique needs.
Anyone can become part of the fight against ALS by joining a local WalkALS. All walk routes are wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can participate. Walk day activities cater to all ages, making it a family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy. For more information or to make an online donation, visit [alsofnevada.org](http://alsofnevada.org).
